• Will I be able to compete at UC Davis with a disability?
  Yes, if you are academically well-prepared as evidenced by meeting the eligibility requirements for UC Davis. Successful students at UC Davis also have good time management skills, are willing to work very hard, and take responsibility for managing their calendars and personal lives.

• Is the quarter system very different from the semester system?
  Yes. The quarter system at a major university is very challenging compared to a 15 or 18 week semester system. Because each quarter is comprised of just ten weeks, you must have strong time management and study skills to complete your assignments and study for exams.

• Is tutoring available to students with disabilities?
  Tutoring will be available to you to the same extent it is available to non-disabled students. The SDC provides accommodations such as sign language interpreters to insure that students with disabilities have equal access to the tutoring at the Learning Skills Center. The Learning Skills Center offers workshops on a variety of study skills, as well as small group tutoring in some content areas at no charge. Tutoring is not available for every course. Some academic units maintain lists of tutors whom you may hire privately.

• How much individual attention will I receive as a student with a disability?
  As a UC Davis student, you can expect to receive the same level of services and attention as non-disabled students, with the exception of disability-based accommodations. The "mainstreamed" environment may be different from what you are accustomed to, particularly if you are coming from a special education program in high school or special classes at community college.

• Where do students with disabilities obtain help with study skills, meeting deadlines, and course selection?
  A network of services is available to all students on campus, including those with disabilities. The Learning Skills Center provides assistance with study skills, and advisers in the academic departments and colleges assist with course selection. As an enrolled student you are responsible for being aware of, and following, all policies, rules and regulations of UC Davis, including observing deadlines.

• Are there special classes for students with disabilities at UC Davis?
  Unlike high schools and community colleges, UC Davis does not offer special or remedial classes for students with disabilities. It is expected that incoming UC Davis students are academically prepared to pursue university studies.

• How do I access the services of the Student Disability Center?
  The services of the Student Disability Center are available to students who have a documented disability that limits a major life activity. Students who have been admitted to the University are advised to provide the SDC with appropriate documentation during the summer prior to their arrival on campus if they will be requesting Fall Quarter accommodations. • Who is eligible to receive academic accommodations at UC Davis?
  Under state law, individuals are eligible to receive reasonable accommodations on the basis of disability at UC Davis if they have a physical or mental impairment that limits a major life activity.

• Are students with disabilities provided enrollment assistance?
  Students who cannot access the online registration system (SISWeb), due to a disability, may be provided with direct assistance as an accommodation. All requests are considered on a case-by-base basis.
